Informal portrait of Major Henry Bachtold DSO MM, 5th Divisional Engineers, of Drummoyne, NSW, on horseback. An engineering draftsman prior to enlistment on 23 September 1914, Bachtold embarked from Melbourne, Vic, aboard HMAT Berrima on 22 December 1914, as a second lieutenant with the 1st Reinforcements, 1st Field Company Engineers. He later served as a lieutenant colonel and returned to Australia on 21 May 1919.

Henry’s story is considerable, his diary transcripts and his life story is close to completion. His amazing story is currently being prepared for publication and will be available soon.
